Final Results

ATHENS, Ohio - This weekend, Ohio Track and Field braved the stormy and soggy weather conditions to take part in the Jesse Owens Classic at Ohio State University.

Ohio opened the event with two top-10 finishes in the javelin by Hope McCarty (7th, 36.54m) and Alexa Macri (9th, 29.90m). Olivia Vitou just missed out and finished 12th for the Green and White. Macri then turned in the Bobcats’ best performance in the discus during the 2012 season with a toss of 41.11 meters.

The 5k followed with sophomore Emily Pifer placing eighth with a time of 17:08.63. Morgan Reichert and Ashley Waddington would also place in the top 20. Melissa Thompson then ran a PR time of 4:37.20 in the 1500, Ohio’s best time of the outdoor season.

During the sprint portion of Saturday, Courtney Weiss placed sixth in the 400m hurdles for the best individual finish of the day.  In the 800m, McCarty finished ninth with a time of 2:13.66. It was a new PR for the senior and moved her up among the top 10 in the MAC this season.

In the pole vault, Jaimie Cavinee cleared 3.16 meters for a new Ohio season-high, Then in the shot put, junior Kristen Mason achieved a season-best for her herself with a throw of 12.91 meters. Freshman Chanda Cuckler would then earn Ohio another top-10 finish in the high jump.

During the relay portion of the meet, Ohio’s 4x4 unit placed fifth with a time of 3:57.40 and its 4x1 squad finished eighth with a time of 50.38. Danielle Winningham earned two top-20 finishes for the Bobcats on the day in the 400 and 200 meter events.

Ohio heads to Oxford next weekend for the All-Ohio Championships at Miami University, April 20-21.
