Brown broke her own school record in the hammer throw Saturday.

April 19, 2014

Highlighted by another sensational performance from junior Donyelle Brown, the Ohio University women’s track & field team wrapped up competition at the Jesse Owens Track Classic Saturday.

After setting a new school record in the hammer throw (56.89m) last weekend in Cincinnati, Brown shattered her mark Saturday with a throw of 57.41m to finish fourth in a strong field at Jesse Owens Stadium. The throw was the fourth-highest mark in the MAC this season.

Senior Lauren McCullough (45.74m) was 32nd in the event, while junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) placed 35th (44.88m).

In other jumps action, junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 1.65m. The jump was her best effort of the 2014 season thus far. Cuckler also put together a strong finish in the 100m hurdles, placing 13th in a personal-best time of 14.33 seconds. The mark should get her into the event at next month’s MAC Outdoor Championships. Freshman Mackenzie Rankin (Louisville, Ohio) set a new personal-best time in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:05.94 to place 24th.

In sprints competition, senior Kara Jackson (Bidwell, Ohio) finished 10th in a time of 57.40, while junior Delaney Bolger led Ohio in mid-distance action with a 17th place finish in the 800m run (2:16.19).

Ohio returns to action next Saturday (April 26) at the RedHawk Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.
