ATHENS, Ohio -In the final home meet of the season and the last time to fine-tune things before the MAC Championships, Ohio Track and Field continued to improve upon what has already been a strong spring season.
The Bobcats were impressive in field events this afternoon setting a number of spring bests. Donyelle Brown won the shot put with a PR throw of 13.65 meters, and also finished second in the hammer and discus. The freshman set Ohio spring marks in both events for the Bobcats.
Classmate Janiece Rose placed second in the shot put and also finished with a PR in the hammer on a toss of 40.17 meters. Alexa Macri was third in the hammer with a PR (46.51), third in the discus and ninth in the javelin (PR - 32.37m). Kristen Mason was third in the shot put and seventh in the discus (37.71 - PR), while Brianna Allen was fourth in the hammer.
Chanda Cuckler, another outstanding freshman for the Bobcats, was second in the high jump with the best spring performance for the club. She also attained a PR in the javelin while finishing sixth. Other standouts included Hope McCarty, who finished second in the javelin, and Brittany Tyree, who matched her PR and finished third in the high jump.
Alexis Geiger has Ohio's best showing in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters while freshman Morgan Overbey had her best showing with a leap of 4.93 meters. The Bobcats also had three pole vaulters in the top five with Jaimie Cavinee, Miranda Richardson (PR - 3.05m) and Jamie Fisher.
During the track portion of the meet, Ohio captured five events. McCarty won the 800m run with a time of 2:13.65 as teammate Erin Gale placed third (PR - 2:14.75) and freshman Delaney Bolger ended in fourth. Melissa Thompson won the 1500m in 4:39.98 with freshman Morgan Reichert placing fourth. Emily Pifer (3rd - 4:44.81) and Ashley Waddington (5th - 4:57.32) each set new personal-best marks.
Courtney Weiss ran away from the competition to earn Ohio's third win, this one in the 400 meter hurdles. Angela Klimkowski won the 3000m steeplechase and Abbie Selhorst won the 3k event with Ohio's best time of the spring in the event (10:43.16). Klimkowski, Lauren Adkins and Lauren Fett finished second through fourth, respectively.
Kiley Mathews and Tyree went second and third in the 400 meters for the Green and White. Geiger just missed on also capturing the 100 meters for Ohio and Kaylah Howard set a new personal-best with a run of 12.89 to finish third.
Ohio now travels to Mount Pleasant, Michigan for the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 10-12 at CMU.
