May 5, 2007
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio completed its second and final home meet of the season on Saturday as a warm-up for next week's Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oxford, Ohio. The Bobcats hosted athletes from seven schools including Capital, Marietta, Mount Union, Muskingum, Rio Grande and Shawnee State. The Ohio Open was a non-scored event as a result of all the schools not having a full compliment of athletes competing. The Bobcats had three athletes hit NCAA regional provisional marks in throwing events, while coming away with first place finishes. Senior Eric Bildstein (North Olmsted, Ohio) hit the provisional mark in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.97m (183-07.00), while fellow senior Chelsea Stephan (Brookville, Ohio) achieved the provisional mark in the javelin with a throw of 44.71m (146-08.00). Mayle took first in the 100m (10.88), the high jump (6-06.75) and the long jump (23-09.00). Mayle was also the anchor of the 4x100m relay team that took first place. Bildstein claimed first place in the discus (164-07.00), hammer throw (183-07.00) and javelin (186-11.00). The Bobcat men also had many other outstanding performances during the meet and had 13 total first place performances. "These are the types of performances that you look for the week before the MAC's," said Calkins. "Everybody did better than expected today. We had three regional qualifiers in the throws today, which was great to see. Anytime you hit those kinds of marks, you know that you're doing the right things." The Bobcats now set their sights on a Mid-American Conference title as they will participate in the MAC Championships from May 10-12 in Oxford, Ohio. "We have a task at hand," said Coach Calkins. "Today being the last home meet for the men pulled on everyone's emotions pretty hard. But the MAC Championships have been weighting heavily on our minds, as well, so we're just trying to gear up and get ready for that." |
