AKRON, Ohio - The Ohio University outdoor women’s track & field team kicked off the 2013 MAC Outdoor Championships with a strong showing in the 10,000m Thursday at the Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex in Akron, Ohio.
Two Bobcats finished in the top-10 of the event, highlighted by a seventh-place finish from rising sophomore Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio). Reichert crossed the line in 36:39.57, and was followed close behind by freshman Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio), who placed eighth in an impressive 37:17.19. It was Roehlig’s first-ever performance in the event.
The duo of excellent performances earned the Bobcats three points, which places Ohio in ninth place after day one of competition. Host Akron is in first place with 30 points.
On day one action of the heptathlon, sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) sits in fifth place with 3,108 points after four events.
Cuckler tied for first in the high jump after posting a personal-best mark of 1.70m and was consistent in the remainder of her events. She placed sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.50 seconds, fifth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 10.37m, and fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 26.08.
In field action, Lauren McCullough (Lancaster, Ohio) threw a season-best 48.85m to finish 17th in the event.
McCullough also participated in the javelin throw, where the senior just missed out on points with a ninth-place finish (38.59m). Junior Olivia Vitou (Rocky River, Ohio) placed 11th in the javelin (35.11m) while junior Alexa Macri (St. Clairsville, Ohio) finished 13th (34.25m).
