Ohio Prepares For Tom Wright Classic Friday

Melissa Thompson will compete in the one mile run Friday after winning the event at the 2013 MAC Indoor Championships.

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University women’s track & field team will hit the road this Friday to compete in the Tom Wright Classic at Bowling Green State University.

The meet will be a triangular matchup between Ohio, Miami, and BGSU.

The action is set to begin promptly at 5 p.m. ET at Perry Field House with field events. Track events begin shortly after at 6 p.m.

Ohio will be represented by a pack of 33 student-athletes.

Junior Delaney Bolger (Lebanon, Ohio) is set to compete in the 800 meter at the meet after placing first at the YSU Penguin Icebreaker in December with a time of 2:20.20.

The Bobcats also will be competing in the 4x400 meter relay on Friday. Freshmen Tajah Smith (Copley,Ohio), Amanda Sacha (Lakewood,Ohio), senior Kara Jackson (Bidwell,Ohio), and junior Karissa Conrad (Lancaster,Ohio) will lead the Bobcats in the event.

In distance events, senior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) makes her season debut in the one mile run. Thompson won the event at last year’s MAC Indoor Championships in a personal-best time of 4:48.22.

Fresh off her strong performances at the Buckeye Classic on Jan. 10, junior Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) will compete in the weight throw and shot put. Brown placed fourth in the weight throw at the Buckeye Classic with a personal-best throw of 17.23m and finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 12.41m.
