Ohio Track and Field Heads to Columbus for OSU Tune-Up

Ohio heads to Ohio State for one last meet before the MAC Championships next weekend.

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Track and Field will take part in the Ohio State University Tune-Up on Friday. It will be the last competition before the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend in Akron.

Action for the Green and White will start inside of French Field House at approximately 5 p.m. ET with the weight throw, pole vault and long jump. Running events begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. ET with the distance medley relay. 


Ohio's Juli Accurso was named the Mid-American Conference's Women’s Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. Last weekend she won the 5k at the FloTrack Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash.

Accurso ran away from the field in the 5000 meters at the prestigious event, winning with a time of 16:05.59. She finished almost six seconds ahead of closest competitor and smashed the Ohio school record by almost 17 seconds. She now holds the 16th-fastest time in the event nationally. 

Prior to that, Accurso was victorious in the 3K invitational at the Meyo Invitational. The sophomore set a school record and also broke the mark for fastest time ever run in the 3k by a Mid-American Conference female student-athlete. She holds the two fastest times by a MAC runner in the 3k and 5k this season.


The Bobcats had three competitors finish in the top 10 of the weight toss at the Hoosier Hills Invitational. Kristen Mason placed fifth with a throw of 16.08 meters to pace the Green and White. Brianna Allen finished sixth with a career-best throw of 15.82 meters and Donyelle Brown was ninth.

Alexis Geiger had Ohio’s best finish of the night, placing third in the long jump with a jump of 5.41 meters. Olivia Vitou finished 13th with a leap of 5.01 meters.

On the evening, Ohio had five other top-15 finishes: Janiece Rose in the shot, Delaney Bolger and Erin Gale in the 600 meters, Courtney Weiss in the 800 meters and Allison Stillwell in the mile.

On Saturday, Hope McCarty ran a personal best 2:16.76 and was joined in the top five of the 800 meter invite by teammate Brittany Tyree.

The Bobcats had three runners place in the top 10 of the 3K invite. Melissa Thompson placed the highest among the trio, finishing fourth with a time of 10:04.35. Emily Pifer ran a season-best 10:06.91 to finish seventh and Morgan Reichert ran a personal best 10:17.92.

Alexis Geiger and Olivia Vitou were seventh and eighth respectively in the 60 meter hurdles and Kiley Mathews finished the 400 meter invite in less than a minute, placing ninth.
