ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University women’s track & field team will send 17 student-athletes to compete in the MAC Indoor Championships Feb. 22-23 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The competition begins Friday, Feb. 22 with the women's pentathlon at 10:30 a.m., and the day will end with the men's distance medley at 7:30 p.m. The final day of competition starts at 10 a.m. Saturday with the men's weight throw, and the meet will conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 4:35 p.m.
Junior Juli Accurso will look to build on her strong performance at last season’s league meet, as the Casstown, Ohio, product won the 3,000m title and finished second in the one mile run in 2012.
Accurso will compete in those events again this year, as well as the distance medley relay with teammates junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio), and seniors Kiley Mathews (Cortland, Ohio) and Danielle Winningham (Barboursville, W. Va.).
The Ohio DMR team won the event at the MAC Indoor Championships last season and broke the MAC meet record with a time of 11:33.39.
Thompson has run well during the indoor season and will compete in the 3,000m run as well as the DMR. Thompson posted the second-fastest time in the MAC amongst league runners this season, with a 4:49.24 finish at the Meyo Invitational Feb. 3 in Notre Dame, Ind.
Three Ohio student-athletes will aim for a strong finish in the 5,000m run, including freshman Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio), who qualified with a 24th place finish (17:20.16) amongst a strong field of competitors at the Meyo Invitational on Feb. 2. Joining Scott in the MAC 5,000m run are sophomore Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) and junior Morgan Meade (Marion, Ohio).
The Bobcats earned the 11th spot in the 4x400m relay and will send a team of Mathews, sophomores Karissa Conrad (Lancaster, Ohio) and Delaney Bolger (Lebanon, Ohio) and Winningham to Ypsilanti to compete in the event.
Junior Erin Gale (Wadsworth, Ohio) and freshman Tessa Weigand (Akron, Ohio) will represent the Bobcats in the 800m run.
In field action, sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) earned top-10 MAC spots in the high jump and indoor pentathlon during the indoor season and will compete at both events at the league championships this weekend. Freshman Hayley Stegemiller (Lebanon, Ohio) also will suit up for the Bobcats in the pentathlon.
In other field events, senior Alexis Geiger (Gallipolis, Ohio) will compete in the long jump, while sophomore Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) will aim for strong finishes in the shot put and weight throw.
Senior Kristen Mason (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) also will perform in the weight throw.
Freshman Kristin Winkel (Avon Lake, Ohio) earned the 20th and final spot for two events this weekend after a solid indoor campaign in her first season with the Bobcats. Winkel will compete in the 60m hurdles and the triple jump for Ohio.
