Scott Mayle Named Great Lakes Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year

ATHENS, Ohio - After setting a new MAC meet record, as well as a new school record in the long jump, Ohio senior Scott Mayle has been named as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Region Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. The men's and women's winners from all nine regions were announced yesterday. Mayle (Philippi, W.Va.) has had a great indoor season for the Bobcats. The senior garnered the 2007 MAC Most Outstanding Field Performance award with his performance at the MAC Championships. Mayle finished first in the long jump, recording a MAC meet record, as well as a new school record with a leap of 7.95 meters (26'1"). Mayle's jump also hit the automatic NCAA qualifying mark and was his third MAC indoor long jump title. In addition, Mayle competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing second with a time of 6.80. In addition, Mayle earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week honors on two occasions this season. His first MAC Field Athlete of the Week award came after he claimed first place in the long jump at the Penn State Invite. At the Penn State Invite, Mayle jumped 7.72 meters (25-04.00 feet), beating out 22 competitors for the title. Mayle's second MAC Field Athlete of the Week award came after Mayle finished third in the 60-meter dash, with a season-best time of 6.71. Mayle is the lone Ohio national qualifier for the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. After having the top long jump mark in the nation (7.95m), Mayle enters the competition ranked first nationally. |
