Weekly Release
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio's Bahiyjaui Allen will head to College Station, Texas for the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Texas A&M University, to compete in the shot put on Saturday, Mar. 14. Her school-record throw of 52-7.50 in the Mid-American Conference Championship meet ranks 16th in the country and earned her All-MAC Second Team recognition.
Allen (Toledo, Ohio) is no stranger to national competition, as she qualified for the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships as a sophomore, also in the shot put, where she finished 27th. She also holds the school record in the 20-lb. weight throw, which she set at the conference championship this year in a sixth-place performance.
Both Kari Summers (Troy, Ohio) and Annie Beecham (Granville, Ohio) also set NCAA provisional qualifying marks this season in the 5,000 meters but did not qualify for the National meet. Their times, which shattered the previous school record, stand 40th and 42nd in the country. Summers garnered All-MAC Second Team honors with runner-up and school-record setting efforts in both the 5,000 and 3,000 meters at the league championship meet this season.
Allen will compete on Saturday, Mar. 14 at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, with the shot put set to begin at 4:45 p.m. ET. Results will be available on OhioBobcats.com at the conclusion of the competition.
