ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University women’s track & field team opens the 2013 outdoor season this weekend at the Wake Forest Open March 15-16 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Bobcats will send more than 20 student-athletes to compete at the event. The action kicks off at 9:30 a.m. Friday with the women’s hammer throw. Day two begins at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s javelin.
Ohio recently wrapped up the indoor season at the Alex Wilson Invitational March 1-2 in Notre Dame, Ind.
Junior Juli Accurso finished fourth in the 5,000m run at the event after crossing the finish line in a season-best 16:13.56. It was the best time amongst MAC competitors during the indoor season.
This weekend, Accurso will compete in the 1,500m run (Friday, 7 p.m.), 3,000m run (Saturday, 2:30 p.m.) and the 5,000m run (Friday, 7:25 p.m.).
Junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio), who won the one mile run at last month’s MAC Indoor Championships, also will race in the 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m.
Sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) finished seventh in the pentathlon at the MAC Indoors and will compete in a number of those individual events in Winston-Salem. Cuckler is scheduled to perform in the 100m hurdles (Friday, 1 p.m.), high jump (Friday, 2 p.m.) and long jump (Saturday, 10 a.m.).
