ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University track student-athlete Juli Accurso was named the Mid-American Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in three weeks Tuesday.
It marks the third time Accurso has garnered the accolade in her career.
The Casstown, Ohio, native finished 20th in the highly competitive Section 1 of the 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational on Friday. Accurso crossed the finish line in 33:52.33, just two seconds off the Ohio school record. The time puts her in strong position to earn an NCAA first round berth in the event.
In her only other competition during the 2013 outdoor season, Accurso broke the school record in the 5,000m run at the Wake Forest Open, crossing the finish line in a blistering 16:21.56. Her time was 46 seconds faster than the next closest finisher and also should qualify Accurso for NCAA first round competition this spring.
Accurso and the Bobcats host their first home event of the outdoor season next Saturday (April 6) with the Ohio Team Challenge and Distance Open.
