ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University women’s track & field team hosts its first meet of the outdoor season Saturday in the annual Ohio Team Challenge and Distance Open.

Events get underway at Goldsberry Track at noon, beginning with the javelin and the long jump. The Bobcats will match up against student-athletes from Marshall University and West Virginia University.

Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) highlights the Ohio field as the junior is scheduled to compete in the 1,500m run at 2:55 p.m. After a stellar indoor season, Thompson has returned to form during the early portion of the outdoor schedule.

At the nationally-renowned Stanford Invitational on March 29, Thompson placed 14th in the Section 4 final of the 5,000m run with a personal-best time of 17:05.32.

Rising sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) will suit up for the Bobcats Saturday in the 100m hurdles (3:25 p.m.), javelin (noon) and high jump (2:00 p.m.).

Cuckler finished second in the high jump at last weekend’s Winthrop Invitational (1.68m). She also finished third in the 100m hurdles (14.48) in just her first time in the event.

Senior Danielle Winningham, who won the 400m in a personal-best 56.04 at the Winthrop Invitational, will compete for Ohio Saturday in the 800m dash (3:55 p.m.) and as part of the 4x100 (2:45 p.m.) and 4x400 (5:20 p.m.) meter relays.

The distance open portion of the event will feature Ohio’s men’s distance team against runners from Marshall University.
