ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio track and field team will head back to Oxford, Ohio this weekend for the Miami Challenge at George L. Rider Track. The Bobcats opened the outdoor season at Miami which hosted the Southern Cup.
Competing at the Challenge are Ball State, Buffalo, Bowling Green, Butler, Cedarville, Dayton, Findlay, Hillsdale, IPFW, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, Rio Grande, Tiffin, Valparaiso, Wright State and the host RedHawks. The Miami women have won two straight Challenges in the meet held every year since 2000.
With Ohio heading to Miami for the second time in three weeks and the RedHawks also competing in last weekend's Duke Invitational, the Bobcats will see Miami for the third time in as many weeks.
At the Southern Cup, the Bobcats posted season best times or marks in the 100 meter dash, 400 meter dash, discus, shot put and high jump. Bahiyjaui Allen (Sylvania, Ohio) took first place in the shot put with a 47 foot, 5.75 inch throw.
Last weekend at the Duke Invitational, Ohio placed seven competitors in the top-10 of eight events. Emily Amendola (Beach City, Ohio) took fifth in both the shot put and hammer throw while Cathy Udeani (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) earned the Bobcats' highest finish taking third in the high jump with a leap of five feet, seven inches which matched her mark at the Southern Cup.
Ohio will participate in two more road meets - in Cincinnati for the All-Ohio Championships and in Hillsdale, Mich. for the Hillsdale Relays - before playing host to a pair of home meets, the Green and White Invite on May 3 and the Ohio Open on May 10.
