ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University women's track & field team makes the short trip north to Columbus to compete in the Jesse Owens Classic this weekend on the campus of Ohio State University.

Field events begin at 4 p.m. with the women’s javelin and kick off Saturday at 10 a.m. with the men’s pole vault. Fans can follow the action all weekend by clicking here.

Ohio will compete with more than 20 teams at the annual event, including host Ohio State, Michigan State, Illinois State and MAC foes Miami, Kent State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan.

The Bobcats will bring a strong pod of runners to Columbus to represent the Green & White in the 1500m run on Friday at 8:50 p.m. Ohio will be bolstered by the return of All-American Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio), who has battled injury for much of the 2014 season. She will be joined by fellow senior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) – who won the event at last weekend’s All-Ohio Championships – and sophomore Tessa Weigand (Akron, Ohio).

In jumps action, the ‘Cats will be led by a pair of student-athletes who have excelled in the event this season. Junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) and freshman Taylor Smith (Canal Winchester, Ohio) have flirted with the MAC auto mark at a number of meets in 2014 and will both see action at the MAC Outdoor Championships in Athens next month. The long jump gets underway in Columbus on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Fresh off her school record-breaking performance at the All-Ohio Championships, junior Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) will lead the Bobcat contingent in the hammer throw on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Brown notched a mark of 56.89m in Cincinnati last weekend to break the previous Ohio hammer throw record set in 2009.

Brown will be joined by fellow junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) and senior Lauren McCullough (Lancaster, Ohio).
