ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University women’s track & field team will head to Western Ohio Saturday to do battle with archrival Miami and 14 other programs at the Redhawk Invitational.

The action gets underway at George Rider Track at 11 a.m. and will conclude around 3:30 p.m. In addition to Miami, the Bobcats will take on student-athletes from No. 24 Kentucky and in-state foes Dayton, Cincinnati and Wright State.

Ohio will send a number of its top distance performers to Oxford, highlighted by juniors Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) and Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio). Accurso will take part in the 1,500m run, while Thompson will race in the 1,500m and the 5,000m. Thompson has qualified for both events at next month’s MAC Outdoor Championships.

Senior Alexis Geiger (Gallipolis, Ohio) will look to qualify for the MAC Outdoors in the long jump after just missing the automatic qualifying mark over Ohio’s past two events. Geiger posted a season-high jump of 5.80m at the All-Ohio Championships on April 12 and followed that performance up with a 5.79m mark at last weekend’s Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus.

Senior Lauren McCullough (Lancaster, Ohio) will lead a trio of Ohio athletes in the javelin throw Saturday. McCullough finished fourth in the event at the Jesse Owens Classic on April 19 (37.21m) and posted a season-high throw of 39.45m at the All-Ohio Championships on April 12 in Athens.
