ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University women’s track & field team will host its final home meet of the season Friday when six local programs head to Athens for the Ohio Open.

Action at the Goldsberry Track gets underway at 2 p.m. with field events, including the shot put and the discus. The last event of the night is the women’s 4x400 meter relay, which will commence at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Other participating teams Friday include Ohio State, Marshall, Capital, Tiffin, Bethany (W.Va.) and Marietta.

The meet will be the last opportunity for Ohio student-athletes to qualify for next weekend’s MAC Outdoor Championships in Akron, Ohio.

Sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) claimed a MAC auto bid in the long jump last weekend and will look to grab another berth in the 100m hurdles Friday (4:45 p.m.). Cuckler’s best finish this season came at the Winthrop Invitational (14.48), just three-tenths of a second off of the MAC qualifying time.

Sophomore Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.), a participant in the shot put at the MAC Indoor Championships in February, will look to qualify for the outdoor league meet with a strong showing in the event Friday (2 p.m.). Rose also will compete in the hammer throw, scheduled for 4 p.m.

Senior Alexis Geiger (Gallipolis, Ohio) has flirted with the MAC auto mark in the long jump (5.82m) throughout the spring, with her best finish coming at the All-Ohio Championships (5.80m) on April 12. Geiger should get in to the event at next week’s league meet as a provisional qualifier, but she will have one more chance to grab an auto bid Friday at 4 p.m.

Junior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) and freshman Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) are in contention for a MAC berth in the 1,500m and will have a chance to qualify Friday at 4:20 p.m. Accurso already earned spots in the 5,000m and 10,000m runs at the league meet.
