Ohio Track & Field Set For MAC Outdoor Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio track & field team begins competition at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday hosted by Toledo.

The event begins at 11 a.m. on Tuesday with the women’s hammer throw and the heptathlon.

Entering the event, Ohio automatically qualified 10 student-athletes in the field.

Ohio junior Emma Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) is the highest ranking athlete for Ohio having posted the second-best mark in the javelin this season throwing a 141-10 at the Ohio Open. Senior Ashlee Bilhimer (Gardner, Kan.) is just behind Ryan in the javelin at 140-4, which ranks third in the MAC and was also set at the Ohio Open.

Ryan is also an auto-qualifier in the discus with the seventh-best mark in the league at 155-11 which was set at the Ashland Alumni Open.

Junior Taylor Smith (Canal Winchester, Ohio) enters the competition with the fourth-best mark in the high jump of 5-8.75 set at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational. Freshman Avery Kerns (Sunbury, Ohio) has also auto-qualified in the high jump and enters competition in 11th in the event after posting a jump of 5-6 at the Shamrock Invitational.

Senior Kristin Winkel (Avon Lake, Ohio) ranks fourth in the MAC in the 100 hurdles at 13.81 which she clocked at the Charlotte Invitational.

Sophomore Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) enters competition in sixth in the shot put after a throw of 50-5.5 at the Charlotte Invitational.

Senior Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) enters competition in the hammer throw sitting in sixth place after a throw of 183-2.

Junior Olivia Mayfield (Beachwood, Ohio) enters competition in the long jump ranked seventh in the MAC. Mayfield had a season-best jump of 19-7 at the Ohio Open.

Senior Allison Roeth (Houston, Ohio) is 10th in the competition in the steeplechase after clocking a 10:52.39 at the Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic.

Ohio freshman Alyssa Atkinson (Granville, Ohio) auto-qualified with the 12th best time in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:54.83 set at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays.
