Athens, Ohio - Ohio's men's and women's track & field teams brought the regular season to a close on Saturday with the Ohio Open held at Goldsberry Track. The meet served as a final preparation for the Bobcats as they approach the 2001 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oxford, Ohio, on May 17-19. In addition to the Bobcats, the competition included participants from Ohio Wesleyan and a number of unattached individuals.

Junior Melody Royster (Heath) won both the 100m dash (12.43) and the 100m high hurdles (14.15). Mary Williams (Cincinnati) also grabbed a pair of victories in the discus (134-5) and the hammer (129-10). The only other individual to win multiple events was former Bobcat Melissa Converse who won the 3,000m run (10:10.48) and the800m run (2:25.01) running unattached. Freshman Erin Golembiewski (Waynesburg, Pa.) was the only Bobcat woman to use the meet to improve on her best season marks, doing so in the shot put (35-9) and the discus (90-8).

In men's action, sophomore RJ Redd (Pickerington) won both the 100m dash (11.25) and the 200m dash (22.94). Senior Steve Schaub (Canton) posted the best performance in the 110 high hurdles (14.84) and the 400m intermediate hurdles (55.10). Seniors Nick Pero and Brett Williamson split the four throwing events. Pero won the shot put (50-1) and the hammer (159-5), while Williamson claimed the javelin (193-1) and the discus (139-1).

The Bobcats close the season at the MAC Championships later this week. The three-day event will be host by Miami University in Oxford on Thursday-Saturday, May 17-19.
