Track Set To Host MAC Outdoor Championships

Juli Accurso will compete for the Bobcats in the 5000m and 10000m runs.

ATHENS, Ohio --
The Ohio University women's track & field team is set to host the 2014 MAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Goldsberry Track & Field Complex.

The Bobcats will welcome 11 other Mid-American Conference programs to Athens for the annual league meet May 15-17. Events begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. on Friday.

The competition begins Thursday at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. The Bobcat contingent has been led all season long by junior Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), who set a new school record in the event with a throw of 57.41m at the Jesse Owens Classic on April 19. She's be joined in the event by fellow junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.).

Action in the women's heptathlon begins on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. Junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) and sophomore Hayley Stegemiller (Lebanon, Ohio) will represent the Bobcats in the two-day event.

At 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, a trio of Bobcats will compete in the javelin throw, led by freshman Ashlee Bilhimer (Gardner, Kan.), who's throw of 41.24m at the RedHawk Invitational was the eighth-best in the MAC this season. She'll be joined by seniors Lauren McCullough (Lancaster, Ohio) and Olivia Vitou (Rocky River, Ohio).

The Bobcats will showcase some of their top distance talent on Thursday evening in the 10000m run (8:15 p.m.). Senior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) will begin to put the finishing touches on her outstanding Ohio career during the event. Accurso recorded the 27th-fastest time (34:18.42) in the NCAA East Region this season at the Hillsdale Gina Relays on April 24. She'll be joined in the race by sophomore Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio), who set a personal-best at Hillsdale with a time of 35:56.09.

Ohio's duo of freshmen Tajah Smith (Copley, Ohio) and Olivia Mayfield (Beachwood, Ohio) will compete for the Bobcats in the long jump on Friday at 1 p.m. Later that afternoon, Brown and Rose will represent the Green & White in the shot put (1:30 p.m.).

On the track Friday, senior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) will compete in her final MAC meet during the trials of the 1500m run at 1 p.m. Thompson posted the third-best time in the MAC this season (4:26.08) at the Jesse Owens Classic. Junior Tessa Weigand (Akron, Ohio) also will represent Ohio in the 1500m.

At 3:20 p.m. Friday, junior Delaney Bolger (Lebanon, Ohio) and freshman Amanda Sacha (Lakewood, Ohio) will race for Ohio in the 800m run trials. The track portion of Friday's meet wraps up at 5:20 p.m. with the 3000m steeplechase final. Sophomore Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) will pace Ohio in the event after notching the seventh-fastest time in the event (10:55.29) at the Hillsdale Relays. Sophomores Allison Roeth (Houston, Ohio) and Peyton Adkins (Gallipolis, Ohio) also will race in the event for the Green & White.

Ohio's duo of junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) and freshman Taylor Smith (Canal Winchester, Ohio) will compete for the Bobcats in the high jump on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The `Cats also will race in a number of final events on the track Saturday, including the 5000m.

Accurso set a new school record (15:59.12) in the event on May 5 at the Payton Jordan Invitational. The time also marked the second-fastest time in MAC outdoor history. Roehlig and Scott will join Accurso in the event.
