Ohio Second After First Day of MAC Championships
May 15, 2008 The Ohio women's track and field team sits in second place after day one of the 2008 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships. The Bobcats compiled 22 team points in the first day of competition. Akron leads with 58 team points while Buffalo is close behind the Bobcats with 20. Kent State is tied for fourth with Bowling Green, each with 11 team points. Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ball State, Miami and Toledo round out the field. Emily Amendola (Beach City, Ohio) placed fifth in the hammer throw, earning the Bobcats four team points. She recorded a long toss of 174 feet, three inches. Teammate Jessie Tanner (Newark, Ohio) pulled in two points in the hammer, with a throw of 170 feet, six inches earning her seventh. Ohio recorded the same points and places in the javelin, with Tanner taking fifth with a throw of 130 feet, 10 inches. Melissa Gressick (Lancaster, Ohio) placed seventh with a throw of 127 feet, six inches. The Bobcats placed twice again in the 10,000 meters, with Carime Reinhart (Bascom, Ohio) and Rachel Beakas (Waterville, Ohio) taking third and fifth, respectively. Reinhart finished the race in 36:05.12, earning the 'Cats six team points, while Beakas crossed the finish line in 36:49.29, tallying four team points. Both marks broke the Bobcats' season best time in the regular season. The 2008 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships will continue Friday at Bowling Green's Whittaker Track. |
