Track Gets Three Top-Five Finishes

Oxford, Ohio - Despite a three-hour weather delay, Ohio's men's and women's track & field teams came out of the first day of MAC Championship competition at Miami University with a total of three top-five finishes. After day one, the men are in fifth place (10) while the women are in sixth (6).
On the men's side, throwers Steve Godek and Brett Williamson both placed in the javelin. Godek took third (185'5") while Williamson trailed in fifth (180'0"). In the hammer, Nick Pero (159'11") and Nate Arbogast (141'2") finished 16th and 20th, respectively.
In women's action, senior Jacki Waller placed third in the 10,000 meter run (36:45.20) for the second consecutive year. Fellow distance runner Katie Fiala finished 15th in the event (39:06.20). Junior heptathlete Martine Ward was in fourth place (2813 points) after day one of competition, with three events remaining. Rounding out the competition for the women, sophomore Mary Williams finished 19th in the hammer (122'3") in her first MAC showing.
The second day of events will kick off Friday morning at 9 a.m. Competition runs through Saturday afternoon in Oxford.
