ATHENS, Ohio- Ohio Track and Field student-athlete Emily Pifer is poised to compete at the NCAA Regionals tomorrow in Jacksonville, Florida. The sophomore will race in the 10,000 meter event at approximately 9:40 p.m.
Pifer (Canal Winchester, Ohio) qualified for the 10,000m after finishing fourth at the MAC Championships. She recorded Ohio's top time of the season (34:55.53). Pifer also finished eighth in the 5,000m at the MAC Championships and had Ohio's top time of the season in that event (17:08.63). She also had Ohio's second-best time in the 1500m event this season at 4:44.81 in the Ohio Open
Pifer finished the outdoor season with seven top-10 finishes among the nine events she participated in, including five top-five finishes. She closed the spring with PR's in the 1500m, 5000m and 10000m events this season.
As the East region is competing on and around the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, the West region will be participating in an identical competition in Austin, Texas. The top performers at both regionals will then travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the NCAA Championships on June 6-9.
