Ohio Track Announces 2001 Awards

ATHENS, Ohio - Junior Melody Royster (Heath) and senior Steve Schaub (Canton) were named most valuable athletes for the 2001 Ohio track season by head coach Elmore Banton at the team's banquet on May 29.

Royster, a co-captain, led the women's team in scoring this season with 111 points. She concluded a stellar junior campaign winning the 100m hurdles (14:03) against a strong field at the Ohio Quad on May 5. The Heath native also captured first place in the 100m dash (12.76) and the 110 high hurdles (14.60) at the Navy Invitational on March 24.

Schaub, an experienced hurdler, led the men's team with 99 ² points in 2001. The co-captain took third in both the 110m high hurdles (14.57) and the 400m intermediate hurdles (54.13) at the Ohio Quad. He placed ninth in the 110 hurdles (14.92) at the MAC Championships.

Foli James (Albany) and RJ Redd (Pickerington) were named first year MVP's. Jen Martin (Athens), Mary Williams (Cincinnati) and Steve Godek (Mentor) were selected as most improved.
