ATHENS, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio University women’s track & field team were named to the Academic All-MAC team Thursday for their stellar efforts on the track and in the classroom during the 2013 outdoor season.
Senior Lauren McCullough (Lancaster, Ohio), juniors Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) and Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) and sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) represented the Bobcats on the annual league academic roster. It marks Accurso’s third Academic All-MAC honor of the season (cross country, indoor, outdoor) and Thompson’s second (indoor, outdoor).
In addition, senior Kiley Mathews (Cortland, Ohio), juniors Alexa Macri (St. Clairsville, Ohio) and Olivia Vitou (Rocky River, Ohio) and sophomores Karissa Conrad (Lancaster, Ohio) and Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) garnered Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades.
To earn a spot on the Academic All-MAC Team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of her team’s contests.

ACADEMIC ALL-MAC TEAM
Lauren McCullough | Senior | 4.000 GPA | War & Peace Studies, Public Administration
McCullough posted a top-10 finish in the javelin throw at the MAC Outdoor Championships in May. The senior registered a strong throw of 38.59m to place ninth in the event. McCullough also qualified for the hammer throw and finished 17th at the league meet with a season-best throw of 48.85m. McCullough tallied three top-3 finishes in the javelin throw during the 2013 outdoor season and tallied a season-best mark (39.45m) at the All-Ohio Championships in April.
Juli Accurso | Junior | 3.882 GPA | Linguistics, French
Accurso qualified for NCAA East Regional competition in the 10,000m after running the event in 33:52.33 at the Stanford Invitational, which ranked as the 30th fastest time in the nation this season. She also qualified for NCAA regional competition in the 5,000m after breaking the Ohio school record in the event (16:21.56) at the Wake Forest Open in March. In MAC competition, Accurso captured the 5,000m title at the league meet in May (16:36.65) and finished eighth in the 1,500m run (4:32.16). She was named First Team All-MAC, was a two-time MAC Female Track Athlete of the Week (March 19, April 2) and earned MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors on March 22.
Melissa Thompson | Junior | 3.891 GPA | Journalism, Women’s and Gender Studies
Thompson shattered the Ohio school record by close to three seconds en route to a second-place finish (4:26.04) in the 1,500m at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Thompson also finished 13th in the 5,000m at the league meet (17:40.29). She set a new personal-best time in the 1,500m while finishing second (4:30.72) in a competitive field at the Jesse Owens Classic in April. The junior also captured race victories in the 1,500m at the All-Ohio Championships and the 5,000m at the Miami RedHawk Invitational. She was named to the All-MAC Second Team after an outstanding outdoor season.
Chanda Cuckler | Sophomore | 3.569 | Pre-Nursing
Cuckler shattered her personal-best point total in the heptathlon en route to a fourth place finish at the event at the MAC Outdoor Championships in May. Her 5,034 points were the most by an Ohio University student-athlete since 1994. Cuckler also earned points for the Bobcats in the high jump, where the sophomore placed eighth with a jump of 1.65m. Cuckler qualified for the MAC Outdoors in the high jump after setting a season best (1.68m) at the Miami RedHawk Invitational in May. She improved on that performance in the high jump portion of the MAC heptathlon, where she set a new personal best with a jump of 1.70m (t-1st in event).
ACADEMIC ALL-MAC HONORABLE MENTION
Kiley Mathews | Senior | 3.426 GPA | Graphic Design
Mathews was a part of the Ohio 4x400 relay team that finished ninth at the MAC Outdoor Championships after crossing the finish line in 3:51.59. It marked her fastest relay time of the season. She also placed third in the 400m (58.98) at the Ohio Team Challenge in April and finished eighth in the event at the Winthrop University Invitational.
Alexa Macri | Junior | 3.317 GPA | Physical Education
Macri enjoyed a strong performance at the 2013 MAC Outdoor Championships with a pair of top-15 finishes. The junior finished 13th in the javelin with a throw of 34.25m and matched that finish with a 13th place performance in the discus (42.66m). Macri tallied her personal best in the javelin this season with a throw of 35.00m at the Miami Redhawk Invitational, and set a also set a PR in the discus at the event (43.38m) in Oxford.
Olivia Vitou | Junior | 3.654 GPA | Graphic Design
Vitou posted a strong finish in the javelin throw at the MAC Outdoor Championships, placing 11th with a mark of 35.11m. The throw was just .01m off of her personal-best mark, set this season at the Ohio Team Challenge in April (35.12m) where she finished third. Vitou also placed fifth at the Miami RedHawk Invitational after posting a solid throw of 34.79m.
Karissa Conrad | Sophomore | 3.905 GPA | Commercial Photography, Communication Studies
Conrad qualified for the MAC Outdoor Championships in the 400m hurdles after posting her personal-best time in the event (1:04.14) en route to a second place finish at the Ohio Open in May. At the league meet, Conrad finished 14th in her heat in a time of 1:04.70. She also was part of the Ohio 4x400 relay team that finished ninth at the league meet. Other highlights from her 2013 outdoor season included a second-place finish in the 400m hurdles at the Ohio Team Challenge (1:04.45) and a fourth-place finish at the Miami RedHawk Invitational (1:04.26).
Morgan Reichert | Sophomore | 3.618 GPA | Long Term Health Care/Health Services Admin, Gerontology
Reichert picked up points for the Bobcats at the MAC Outdoor Championships with a seventh-place finish in the 10,000m (36:39.57). Reichert qualified for the event after posting a personal-best time (36:05.70) at the nationally-renowned Stanford Invitational in March. Reichert also placed 16th in the 5,000m at the MAC Outdoor Championships in a time of 17:51.41. During the Bobcats’ outdoor season, the sophomore also earned a third place finish in the 10,000m at the All-Ohio Championships in April (37:03.13).
