Beecham, Tanner Named Academic All-District

ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio's Annie Beecham and Jessie Tanner were named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV women's track & field/cross country team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday. Beecham received second-team honors, while Tanner nabbed third-team recognition for the first time in their Bobcat careers. Beecham (Granville, Ohio), a journalism major, won the Mid-American Conference individual cross country title in 2008, setting a new conference and school record in the 5K and earning first-team All-MAC honors. She went on compete in the NCAA Cross Country Championship and garner Academic All-MAC accolades for cross country and both indoor and outdoor track & field. She also tallied three third-place performances at the conference championships in the indoor 3,000m and 5,000m and the outdoor 10,000m. Tanner (Newark, Ohio), a senior accounting major, notched a 10th-place finish in the shot put at the MAC Indoor Championships and three top-10 showings at the MAC Outdoor Championships in the hammer, discus and javelin throws and was named to both the indoor and outdoor track & field Academic All-MAC teams. To qualify for the Academic All-District squad, a student-athlete must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests, have been enrolled at their institution for at least a year and carry a 3.30 cumulative GPA or better. The teams are then voted on and selected by members of CoSIDA. |
