ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Track and Field student-athletes Emily Pifer and Brittany Tyree were named to the 2012 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team.
Tyree (University Heights, Ohio), currently owns a 3.91 GPA in Communication Studies and finished fifth at the MAC Championships in the heptathlon with Ohio's top score of the season (4835 points). She also finished 13th at the MAC Championships in the high jump and was second among Ohio athletes in the 100 hurdles (15.23), 200m (26.23) and long jump (5.20m). The senior had top-10 finishes in 34 of the 45 events she took part in this indoor season, including 16 top-five finishes.
Pifer (Canal Winchester, Ohio) currently owns a 3.94 GPA in Journalism and qualified for the 10,000m at the NCAA East Regionals. She finished fourth at the MAC Championships in the 10k and had Ohio's top time of the season (34:55.53). Pifer also finished eighth in the 5,000m at the MAC Championships and had Ohio's second-best time in the 1500m this season at the Ohio Open. She finished the outdoor season with seven top-10 finishes among the nine events she participated in, including five top-five finishes.
Six more Bobcats, Alexa Macri, Kristen Mason, Kiley Mathews, Hope McCarty, Melissa Thompson and Courtney Weiss all received honorable mention from the league.
To be considered for selection, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
