Amendola, Women's Track & Field Honored on All-Academic Team
ATHENS, Ohio - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the Division I Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team on Tuesday. There were a record-number 468 student-athletes honored for their achievements in both athletics and academics. Earning this distinction from the Bobcat Track and Field Team is Emily Amendola, a junior from Beach City, OH. She competes in the throws on both the outdoor and indoor track and field teams and is majoring in exercise physiology.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event. In addition to the individual honor, the Ohio women's track and field team was named to the USTFCCCA Division I Women's All-Academic Teams of the Year list. Out of 117 teams honored, the Bobcats stand 28th in the nation with an overall GPA of 3.332, leading the Mid-American Conference. The next-closest MAC team is Bowling Green at 55th. Arizona State was selected as the 2008 Division I Women's Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year. The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the conbination of best overall finish at the Division I Indoor and/or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA. To be nominated, a team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average. |
