USTFCCCA All-Academic Team Release | USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual Release
ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University women’s track & field team has earned a series of academic honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the squad’s superior efforts in the classroom during the 2012-13 season.
The Bobcats received the organization’s All-Academic Team honor and placed four student-athletes on the individual All-Academic squad. With a team GPA of 3.33, Ohio ranked 60th in the nation in academic performance and were third amongst MAC programs.
The quartet of Ohio student-athletes recognized by the USTFCCCA included junior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio), sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio), senior Kiley Mathews (Cortland, Ohio) and junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio).

Accurso, Mathews and Thompson also were a part of the DMR team that captured the event title for the third-straight season at the MAC Indoor Championships in a meet record time of 11:26.80.
Juli Accurso | Junior | 3.882 GPA | Linguistics, French
Accurso qualified for NCAA East Regional competition in the 10,000m after running the event in 33:52.33 at the Stanford Invitational, which ranked as the 30th fastest time in the nation this season. She also qualified for NCAA regional competition in the 5,000m after breaking the Ohio school record in the event (16:21.56) at the Wake Forest Open in March. In MAC competition, Accurso captured the 5,000m title at the league meet in May (16:36.65) and finished eighth in the 1,500m run (4:32.16). She was named First Team All-MAC, was a two-time MAC Female Track Athlete of the Week (March 19, April 2) and earned MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors on March 22.
Chanda Cuckler | Sophomore | 3.569 | Pre-Nursing
Cuckler shattered her personal-best point total in the heptathlon en route to a fourth place finish at the event at the MAC Outdoor Championships in May. Her 5,034 points were the most by an Ohio University student-athlete since 1994. Cuckler also earned points for the Bobcats in the high jump, where the sophomore placed eighth with a jump of 1.65m. Cuckler qualified for the MAC Outdoors in the high jump after setting a season best (1.68m) at the Miami RedHawk Invitational in May. She improved on that performance in the high jump portion of the MAC heptathlon, where she set a new personal best with a jump of 1.70m (t-1st in event).
Kiley Mathews | Senior | 3.426 GPA | Graphic Design
Mathews was a part of the Ohio 4x400 relay team that finished ninth at the MAC Outdoor Championships after crossing the finish line in 3:51.59. It marked her fastest relay time of the season. She also placed third in the 400m (58.98) at the Ohio Team Challenge in April and finished eighth in the event at the Winthrop University Invitational.
Melissa Thompson | Junior | 3.891 GPA | Journalism, Women’s and Gender Studies
Thompson shattered the Ohio school record by close to three seconds en route to a second-place finish (4:26.04) in the 1,500m at the MAC Outdoor Championships. Thompson also finished 13th in the 5,000m at the league meet (17:40.29). She set a new personal-best time in the 1,500m while finishing second (4:30.72) in a competitive field at the Jesse Owens Classic in April. The junior also captured race victories in the 1,500m at the All-Ohio Championships and the 5,000m at the Miami RedHawk Invitational. She was named to the All-MAC Second Team after an outstanding outdoor season.
