ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio's track & field program received All-Academic team recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for its 2011 season, turning in a 3.36 team GPA, second-highest in the Mid-American Conference and 45th nationally.

Nationally, a total of 164 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.0 or better. Akron led the conference with a 3.39 GPA. Overall, the MAC placed six teams on the list, with the Big 12 pacing the nation with 11 teams. It was followed by the Big Ten and Ivy League which claimed eight apiece.

Last week, Ohio Track & Field had three student-athletes named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association 2011 Division I All-Academic honorees. Annie Beecham, Kari Summers and Brittany Tyree were selected, making it three-consecutive years the Bobcats have placed at least three student-athletes on the list.

For Beecham and Summers, they become three-time honorees while this is the first selection for Tyree. All three student-athletes were members of the 2011 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC team.
