Women Take Home 25th at Pre-Nationals

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Ohio Cross Country team had a great performance Saturday at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. In the Bobcat's last race before the MAC Championships, the women's squad, competing in the meets seated blue race, finished 25th, while the men's squad, competing in the open division, finished 10th. The Ohio women, taking home two top-100 performances in the 6k race, were led by junior Carime Reinhart, who placed 58th with a time of 21:15. Closely following Reinhart was senior Andrea Maas, who took 92nd with a time of 21:39. Freshman Annie Beecham was third for the Bobcats, placing 151st with a time of 22:08. The women, finishing with 639 points, defeated Wichita State by nine points. Texas A&M finished before the Bobcats with 569 points. Stanford won the women's blue race with 45 points. "The level of competition in the women's race was very high and we (the coaches) were very happy with their finish," said Head Coach Clay Calkins. "The women definitely ran to their capabilities." On the men's side, sophomore Shamus Eaton led the squad, placing 19th in the 10k race with a time of 25:33. Finishing second for the Bobcats was freshman Ridge Robinson who placed 38th with a time of 25:53. Freshman Will Rover took 45th overall with a time of 26:09. Finishing only one point ahead of the Ohio men was Indiana/Purdue at Indianapolis with 210 points. The Bobcats defeated 11th place Wichita State by 18 points. Harvard won the men's open division with 61 points.
"Coach Bentley and I are very satisfied with the results of today's meet," said Calkins. "We had a lot of personal best's on both sides and everyone is looking good for the MAC Championships." The Pre-Nationals race included some of the top teams in the country. Overall, in three divisions, 87 teams competed for the women and 86 teams competed for the men. In the women's seated blue race, Ohio competed directly against 36 other teams. In the men's open race, Ohio competed against 13 other teams, including Toledo, who took 13th. "This is a great meet to have two weeks before the conference championships," said Calkins. "The meet is high caliber and it has a very high level of competition. It is great preparation for the championship season." Next on the slate for Ohio is the MAC Championships on Oct. 28 in Buffalo, N.Y., giving the Bobcats two weeks off to rest and prepare for the competition. |
