BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the 2006 season on Saturday, with the women taking eighth and the men finishing 17th at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bowling Green, Ohio.

On the women's side, junior Carime Reinhart (Bascom, Ohio) was the fastest Mid-American Conference runner in the field, placing 19th with a time of 21:50.60. Reinhart was just 38.44 seconds away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Closely following Reinhart, was Bobcat senior Andrea Maas (Cincinnati, Ohio) who was the second-fastest MAC runner in the field. Maas finished 29th with a time of 22:06.63. She took home 44th at the meet last year.

Out of 209 runners, three other women Bobcats, all returning next year, placed in the top 75. Freshman Kari Summers (Troy, Ohio) took home 36th with a 22:17.95, while another freshman, Annie Beecham, finished 70th. Rounding out the scoring for Ohio was sophomore Julia Weisenborn (Bowling Green, Ohio) placing 73rd.

The Bobcats finished with 221 points, the best among participating MAC schools. Following Ohio in the MAC was Bowling Green who finished 10th with 356 points. Michigan State, ranked No. 11 in the national poll, took home the Regional title with 63 points closely defeating the No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin with 66 points. Taking home the individual women's title was Nicole Edwards from the University of Michigan, finishing with 20:50.91.
 

 

The men's squad was paced by senior Brian King (Richfield, Minn.) who finished 84th recording a time of 33:09.50. Sophomore Shamus Eaton (Uniontown, Ohio), following King, placed 88th at 33:18.37. Eaton improved three spots from last years finish. Out of 209 men in the field, four other Ohio runners placed in the top 150. Freshmen Logan Singleton (Pleasant Plain, Ohio) and Brock Schwarz (Alliance, Ohio) finished 131st and 134th, respectively, while sophomore Todd Holbrook (Dayton, Ohio) took 136th and freshman Will Rover (Maine, Ohio) placed 150th.

With 573 points, the Bobcats were sixth-best among participating MAC schools. Eastern Michigan led the way in the MAC with 5th place and 137 points. Taking home the Regional title was the University of Wisconsin with 52 points. Wisconsin is currently ranked No. 1 in the national poll. Taking second was Notre Dame with 104 points. Corey Nowitzke from Eastern Michigan University earned the individual men's title with a time of 30:57.94.

With the cross country season completed, the runners will now concentrate on running long distance for the track & field team. Ohio's indoor season begins on Friday, Jan. 12 at the Skip Summerville Invite in Akron, Ohio.
