Reinhart and Bobcat Team Receive Women's Cross Country All-Academic Honors
May 17, 2006 ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio's Carime Reinhart earned All-Academic honors from the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (WICCCA) for posting the fourth-highest GPA in the country during the 2005 season, while the Bobcat team was also honored for posting a cumulative GPA above 3.00. In the WICCCA All-Academic Individual list, the sophomore Reinhart (Bascom, Ohio) posted a 3.972 GPA, behind only Indiana's Jessica Gall (4.000), Duke's Natasha Roetter (3.979) and Stanford's Arianna Lambie (3.977). This past season in the Mid-American Conference, Reinhart, a speech pathology major, was only one of four athletes to receive both Academic All-MAC and first-team All-MAC honors. She finished fourth at the MAC Championships with a personal-best time of 17:49. At the NCAA Regionals, she finished ahead of the 2005 MAC Champion Beata Rudzinska but missed out on the NCAA Championships by 1.7 seconds. "Carime's hard work and determination have not only been showcased on the field but also in the classroom," said Head Coach Clay Calkins. "We recruited her because we knew she would excel in both areas and set a great example for Ohio athletics." In the team listings, the Bobcats were in the top-50 with an overall GPA of 3.411, fourth highest in the MAC. Only Central Michigan (3.559), Kent State (3.473) and Akron (3.470) had higher cumulative marks. Having one of its best seasons in years, Ohio finished fourth at the 2005 MAC Championships, its best finish since placing second in 1998. Calkins believes the awards are indicative of the team's outstanding efforts in all areas of their college careers. "We have a hard working group of young ladies," Calkins said. "We have always encouraged the students to strive for academic excellence while pursuing excellence in athletics, and it's great to see the team achieve both."
