Sept. 20, 2007 Full Color Weekly Release in PDF Format
ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio men's and women's cross country teams play host this weekend in their only home meet of the 2007 campaign. Set to visit Athens on Saturday for the Ohio Invitational - an 8k run for the men and a 5k for the women - is Cleveland State, Cincinnati and Alderson Broaddus College of Philippi, W.V. Cleveland State will only be competing in the women's race (the Vikings do not have a men's team) while both men's and women's teams will compete for Cincinnati and Alderson Broaddus. The women will start first at 10:30 a.m. and the men will begin one half hour later at 11 a.m. Both races will be held at the Ohio University Golf Course. The Ohio Invitational is a smaller event than last weekend's Mel Brodt Invitational when 14 teams gathered at Bowling Green State University. But despite the large amount of teams and overall participants, the Bobcats placed five runners in the top-10, three women and two men. Senior Craig Leon (Van Wert) won the men's event with a time of 24:39.21, a whopping 13 seconds ahead of the second place finishers. Junior Shamus Eaton (Uniontown) crossed the finish line in 10th while sophomore Ridge Robinson (Navarre) finished just outside the top-10 in 11th. On the women's side, Carime Reinhart (Bosom) picked up right where she left off in 2006. The senior, the MAC Champion in 2006, took second place and teammate Kari Summers (Troy) was nipping at her heals in third place. Sophomore Annie Beecham (Granville) skated into eight with a time of 18:12.27
Cincinnati has competed in two events this season. The Bearcats took both the men's and women's titles at their most recent meet - the Queen City Invitational at Cincinnati's Voice of America Park. Sophomore Randy King crossed the finish line first in the men's event while the best Cincinnati women's place was second, turned in by freshman Jill Glassmeyer. Cleveland State has also competed in two events, with a 10th place showing at the Bill Sudeck Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio, as their best result. Freshman Allison Crane ran a personal best 20:16.00 which netted the Austintown native 16th place overall. Alderson Broaddus men's and women's teams have each competed in three events, with team results ranging from sixth to third place. The next two events lined up for the Bobcats include the Notre Dame Invitational and the All-Ohio Championship on Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, respectively. -------------------------------- Joe Waltasti is the cross country contact in the Ohio media relations office.
