CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ohio landed four cross country runners on the 2006 Academic All-Mid-American Conference team for their standout performance in the classroom and on the course this season. The Academic All-MAC team includes junior Carime Reinhart (Bascom) and sophomore Rachel Beakas (Waterville) from the girl's squad, as well as senior Brian King (Richfield, Minn.) and sophomore Shamus Eaton (Uniontown) from the men's squad. Reinhart, a speech and pathology major, received the honor for the second time in her cross-country career. She was also a two-time recipient of the award for the 2006 indoor and outdoor track seasons. Reinhart was one of only three women runners in the MAC this season to earn both Academic All-MAC honors and first-team All-MAC honors. Most recently, Reinhart received the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award for her first place finish at the MAC Championships, where she led the women's squad to the MAC title. Reinhart also helped lead the women to a victory at the All-Ohio Championships, taking home 11th place. An undecided major, Beakas made the academic team for the first time. Along with Reinhart, she was a large contributor to the success of the woman's squad. Her performances helped the Bobcats take home team titles at the MAC Championships, where she placed 15th and at the Mel Brodt Invite, where she placed ninth. On the men's side, King, an accounting and finance major, ended his cross-country career having earned the academic honor twice. King was selected to the team three times as a member of the track team, as well. A strong leader of the young men's squad this season, King took home 13th at the MAC Championships. He also earned MAC Runner of the Week honors after his performance at the Notre Dame Invitational where he finished 12th. Eaton, a journalism major in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, made the team for the first time. His best performance of the season came at the MAC Championships, where he took home 16th. He also led the men's squad at the NCAA Pre-Nationals finishing 19th. The league announced Wednesday that nine male and 23 female student-athletes were selected for the team by a faculty representative from each MAC school. A representative cannot vote for a runner nominated from the same school. Students with a 3.20 cumulative GPA, sophomore standing and participation in at least 50 percent of their team's meets are eligible for inclusion. Ohio was only behind Central Michigan for the most runner's honored. Next on the slate for the Bobcat's is the NCAA Regional's on Nov. 11 in Bowling Green, Ohio.
