Cross Country Announces 2000 Awards 11/15/2000
Athens, Ohio -Senior Jackie Waller (New Port Richey, Fla.) and sophomore Mickey Martin (Parma Heights) were named most valuable runners for the 2000 season by Ohio head coach Elmore Banton at the team's banquet on Nov.14. Waller finished in the top-three places four times this year. She captured first place with a time of 18:16 at the Ohio Invitational on Oct. 7. Her performance earned her MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honors. Martin led a young group of Bobcat runners this season. The 1999 freshmen of the year finished 13th (26:27) at the Ohio Invitational and 41st (26:04) at the Mid-American Conference Championships. Lindsay Nemastil (Cleveland Heights) and Todd Pashack (Centerville) were named freshmen of the year. Mary Reynolds (Grand Rapids, Mich.), Katie Fiala (Rocky River) and Jesse Yun (Columbus) were selected as the most improved runners.
