ATHENS, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Monday that Ohio RS senior linebacker Quentin Poling (Gomer, Ohio) and RS sophomore kicker Louie Zervos (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) have been named MAC East Defensive and Special Teams players of the week, respectively, following their play against Toledo last week.
The Bobcats knocked off West Division leader Toledo, 38-10 last Wednesday.
Poling led Ohio with 12 total tackles and five solo stops while also recording three sacks for 24-yards lost and a fumble recovery in the outing.
Poling ranks second in the MAC with 92 tackles so far this season, which leads the Bobcats and includes 40 solo stops. Poling ranks 28th nationally in tackles, 12th in fumble recoveries and 16th in forced fumbles. With his three sacks against Toledo, Poling became the all-time Ohio leader in tackles for loss (44.0). Earlier this season, he became the Ohio career leader in solo tackles (212).
Zervos connected on his only field goal attempt against Toledo draining a 44-yard attempt. Zervos also went 5/5 on PAT attempts. Zervos is 12/15 on field goals and 49/50 this season which ranks second in the MAC in scoring by a kicker. Zervos ranks 31st in the NCAA in scoring and 28th in total point scored.
The Bobcats look to clinch the MAC East Division for the second-straight year at Akron tomorrow. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2, which marks the third-straight week that Ohio has been featured on the network.
