Ohio Leads League With 12 All-MAC Selections

ATHENS, Ohio – Eleven Ohio football players were among the selections for the All-Mid-American Conference football teams announced by the organization Wednesday. Ohio RS senior linebacker Quentin Poling (Gomer, Ohio) was a First Team Defense selection. 

Ohio had twelve total selections to the list which tied Western Michigan for most picks amongst the first, second and third teams.  

On the second team, Ohio had six players named to Second Team All-MAC Offense and two Second Team All-MAC Defense. Named Second Team All-MAC Offense were – sophomore quarterback Nathan Rourke (Oakville, Ontario), senior center Jake Pruehs (North Olmstead, Ohio), RS junior guard Joe Anderson (Torrance, Calif.), RS junior tackle Joe Lowery (Tallmadge, Ohio), RS junior wide receiver Papi White (Seminole, Okla.) and RS junior running back A.J. Ouellette (Covington, Ohio). White was also named to the Third Team All-MAC as a punt returner. Named Second Team All-MAC Defense were – RS senior linebacker Chad Moore (Grove City, Ohio) and RS sophomore safety Javon Hagan (Jacksonville, Fla.)

Along with White, RS senior cornerback Bradd Ellis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and RS sophomore placekicker Louie Zervos (Tarpon Springs, Fla.) were named Third Team All-MAC.

Poling finished the regular season with 102 total tackles and 47 solo stops, both team highs. Poling set the Ohio career record with 219 solo tackles and ranks 10th on the career tackle chart with 370. Poling leads the squad with 12.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. He also has three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries this season.

Rourke has racked up 2,018 yards passing connecting on 149-274 attempts with 15 passing touchdowns. On the ground, Rourke set the Ohio single-season record with 21 rushing touchdowns and has 882 yards, which ranks second in the NCAA and tops for a Division I quarterback.

Ouellette has 980 yards on 184 attempts with seven rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. Ouellette needs just 20 more yards to become the 11th player in Ohio history to reach 1,000 rushing yards. He has broken 100-yards rushing four times this season, including a season-high 145 yards against Eastern Michigan.

White leads the Ohio wide receiving corps with 525 yards and averages 16.4 yards per reception. He has two touchdowns in eight games played with 32 catches. He also has seven punt returns for 48 yards with a long of 20 and averages 6.9 yards per return.

Pruehs, Anderson and Lowery have started all 12 games this season and helped anchor the offensive line for the Bobcats which set records in total points scored (467), points per game (38.9), rushing touchdowns (40) and 2,930 yards on the ground which ranks sixth all-time at Ohio. Ohio's total offense number of 5,171 yards ranks fifth all-time at Ohio and the Bobcats have had a 100-yard rusher 10 times this season.

Hagan ranks second on the Bobcats squad with 76 tackles and 39 solo stops. He has five pass breakups, one fumble recovery for 34-yards and an interception.

Moore is third on the Bobcats squad with 74 tackles and 37 solo stops.  Moore leads the Bobcats with three interceptions with 46 return yards while also logging four pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

Ellis tied the Ohio record with 18 pass breakups this season and ranks second in the country with 20 passes defended (INT+PBU). Ellis has two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns and ranks fifth on the team with 56 tackles, including 39 solo stops.

Zervos has gone 15-18 on field goals this season including going 8-9 from 40-49 yards. His longest field goals this season were 46-yards against Akron and Kansas. Zervos has also gone 56-57 on PAT and ranks third in the MAC in scoring.

Ohio returns to action at the 2017 Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 22 facing off against Alabama-Birmingham on ESPN.
