ATHENS, Ohio -- Redshirt senior defensive lineman Kent Berger (Mentor, Ohio) represented the Ohio football team on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District 5 Division I Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Football Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot. First and second-team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
Berger, who is a finance major, has compiled a career-high 31 tackles in 2018. He leads the team with a career-high five sacks and has tallied a career-high 6.5 tackles for loss to rank second on the team. Berger has started all 11 games for the Bobcats so far this season.
Ohio (7-4, 5-2 MAC) is coming off of a big 52-17 victory over Buffalo on Wednesday (Nov. 14) at Peden Stadium that kept its hopes of winning a Mid-American Conference East Division title alive. The Bobcats will close out the 2018 regular season by playing host to MAC East Division rival Akron in a nationally televised matchup on CBS Sports Network on Friday, Nov. 23.
