ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team (6-8) slugged out 10 hits to sneak past Oakland 7-6 Sunday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium to clinch a 2-1 series victory.

Sophomore left-hander Sean Kennedy (Columbus, Ohio) picked up the win as he came on in relief of starter Jason Moulton (Toledo, Ohio). Kennedy did not allow an earned run and struck four, while Moulton struck out eight and allowed just one earned run.

Junior right-hander Brett Barber (Hurricane, W. Va.) came in during the eighth and worked 1.1 innings to earn the save.

Offensively, senior Jensen Painter (Willshire, Ohio) led the way as he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. He also belted his team-leading fourth home run on the year.

Oakland got on the board first in the top half of the first, but Ohio fired back in the bottom of the frame with four runs on five hits. Sophomore Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio) and freshmen Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Cody Gaertner (Allison Park, Pa.) all drove in runs and senior Doug Holmes would come into score on a fielding error by Oakland's Ian Yetsko.

The Grizzlies cut the lead in half in the top of the second and would go on to tie the game at four apiece in the sixth.

Ohio answered back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to single up the middle by senior captain Ethan Newton (Norfolk, Va.), which drove home Black and freshman Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) to make the count 6-4.

In the seventh, Ohio pushed its lead to three thanks to Painter's home run which landed over the left center field wall. In the eighth, Oakland scored two runs by capitalizing on a pair of Bobcat errors. Following a scoreless eighth for Ohio, Barber secured the win for the Bobcats as he retired the Grizzlies in order.

Ohio returns to action Friday, March 16 at 4 p.m. as it welcomes IPFW for a four-game series at Bob Wren Stadium.
