ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team (4-14; 0-1 MAC) dropped a 6-3 decision to Central Michigan Friday night in its Mid-American Conference opener at Bob Wren Stadium.
Freshman Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) suffered the loss to fall to 1-3 on the year. Roehn worked 3.2 innings, allowed five hits, gave up five earned runs and struck out two.
Sophomore third baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.) and senior designated hitter Chandler Geller (Austin, Texas) led the way offensively for the Bobcats as they both tallied a pair of hits. The two also combined for three RBI. Geller drove in two and Adryan collected one RBI.
Freshman centerfielder Mitch Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) and junior first baseman Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) also chipped in offensively as they both tallied a hit and scored a run. Madsen continued his consecutive start streak as he earned the starting nod for the 123rd time.
As a team, Ohio was outhit 11-9.
Central Michigan jumped out to a 3-0 lead through 2.5 innings, but the Bobcats stormed back with three runs in the bottom half of the frame with three runs on two hits. Geller highlighted the frame with a two-out single to left field which plated Longo and Madsen.
The Chippewas responded with two runs in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead. Three innings later, CMU added another to secure the win.
CMU starter Jordan Foley earned the win after he went 6.1 innings and gave up just four walks.
Ohio and Central Michigan return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Jake Rudnicki will get the starting nod for Ohio.
