ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University Baseball Team (4-17) snapped an eight game losing streak as it took down Toledo 9-3 at Bob Wren Stadium Saturday afternoon. This victory also makes Ohio 1-1 in MAC play.

Senior left-hander Marck Paliotto (Columbus, Ohio) pitched five innings and posted three strikeouts and three walks. He recorded his first win of the season and lowered his ERA to 4.58.

Offensively, Ohio had three batters with multiple hits and multiple RBI. The 'Cats also had eleven hits by eight different batters and seven different players scored runs. Toledo got on the board in the first with two hits and an unearned run scored by Tyler Grogg after he reached on an error. Ohio got out of the inning with no more damage as the Rockets stranded two men in scoring position.

The Rockets added another run in the third after having the bases loaded with no outs. Matt Delewski scored after reaching on a single to center field. Toledo also scored in the fourth to extend its lead to 3-0.

Ohio put up its first five runs in the fifth after the bases were loaded with no outs. The inning highlight was a single by sophomore centerfielder Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) who has now reached base safely in 13 straight games.

The 'Cats tacked on three more in the sixth with two outs to extend the lead to five (8-3). A double by sophomore first baseman Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored sophomore catcher Cody Gaertner (Allison Park, Pa.). Then, junior leftfielder Scott White (Springboro, Ohio) drove in Madsen with a homerun over the left field wall.

Ohio tallied its ninth run of the afternoon in the eighth inning. Junior left-hander Sean Kennedy (Columbus, Ohio) pitched four innings of relief, struck out one and gave up no runs.

The Bobcats wrap up the series with Toledo with game two of Saturday's doubleheader.
