ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team (5-23, 1-8 MAC) fell to Kent State (19-10, 7-2 MAC) 18-2 Sunday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium.
Junior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) started his 133rd-consecutive game for Ohio and his third-inning RBI single extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games. Juniors Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) and Garrett Black (Lima, Ohio) both chipped in for Ohio's offense as they each collected a hit.
Sophomore Connor Sitz (Westerville, Ohio) started on the mound for the Bobcats, but was unable to make it out of the first inning. Sophomore Jake Miller (Westerville, Ohio) came on in relief of Sitz after he allowed six runs on four hits. Miller worked the next four innings on the hill for Ohio. He ended the outing after allowing five runs on eight hits.
Kent State would face five more Ohio pitchers throughout the day. Junior Logan Cozart (New Philadelphia, Ohio) and freshman Christian Botter (Toronto, Canada) both made scoreless appearances out of the Bobcat bullpen.
The Flashes jumped out to an early lead as they plated seven runs on seven hits in the first inning. They added another run the following inning and two more in the third to take a 10-0 lead over the `Cats.
Back-to-back RBI singles by Madsen and Wells put Ohio on the board in the third inning to bring the score to 10-2 entering the fourth.
Kent State tacked on another run in the fifth and then scored five runs in the seventh to open up a 16-2 lead. The Flashes added two more runs in the ninth to complete the series sweep and bring the game to its final score of 18-2.
The Bobcats travel to Beckley, W. Va. on Wednesday for a mid-week game against Marshall. First pitch is set to begin at 3 p.m. at YMCA Kennedy Center.
