ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team fell 10-5 in the series finale against Eastern Michigan Sunday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium.
Freshman Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) and junior Jake Madsen (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued their success at the plate with a pair of hits each. Madsen's two hits raised his series average to .428, while Black's increased to .461. Madsen also made his 145th-consecutive start.
"I can't say enough about Ty Black. I love how he carries himself on the field; he has good energy and he's starting to swing the bat a little better," said head coach Rob Smith. "I'm looking forward to watching his continued development."
Junior Tyler Wells (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Nick Bredeson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) also chipped in with two hits each.
Ohio had seven different players combine for a total of 11 hits, which marked the 14th time this season the team has collected 10-or-more hits in a game.
"I was really happy with our offensive effort," Smith said. "They competed well. We just have to continue to get better in certain areas, but there were a lot of positives this weekend."
Sophomore Connor Sitz (Westerville, Ohio) started his seventh game on the mound for the Bobcats. He allowed four runs on five hits in his 5.2 innings of work before suffering the loss.
Eastern Michigan started the game with back-to-back hits in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles added another run in the third inning after a fielding error by Ohio first baseman John Adryan (Delran, N.J.).
The Bobcats first run of the game came in the fourth inning when Madsen scored on a throwing error by Eastern Michigan shortstop Marquise Gill.
EMU added five runs to take a 7-1 lead in the top of the sixth. Ohio battled back in the bottom half of the frame with four runs of its own to pull within two.
Madsen and Wells sparked the scoring with back-to-back hits to begin the inning. Both came around to score following a sacrifice fly by Adryan and single up the middle by redshirt junior Taylor Emody (Milan, Ohio).
Junior Logan Cozart (New Philedelphia, Ohio) tossed two innings of relief for the Bobcats and allowed one run on two hits. His 24 appearances this season lead the Ohio bullpen.
Eastern Michigan added one run in the eighth and two in ninth to secure the win and bring the game its final score of 10-5.
The Bobcats return to action Friday for the start of a three-game Mid-American Conference series against Buffalo. First pitch is set to begin at 6 p.m. inside Bob Wren Stadium. Fans can listen live on WOUB 1340 am or follow along on ohiobobcats.com.
