ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team fell 16-1 to Miami University Saturday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium to conclude its 2014 season.
Prior to the game, Ohio honored seniors Chandler Geller (Austin, Texas), Sean Kennedy (Columbus, Ohio), Brad Przebieda (Lancaster, Ohio) and Scott White (Jacksonville, Fla.)
Sophomore Connor Sitz (Westerville, Ohio) suffered the loss for Ohio and dropped to 0-9 on the year. Sitz went just 1.1 innings, allowed seven hits and gave up five earned runs.
Geller led the Bobcats offensively with two hits. Teammates John Adryan (Delran, N.J.), Ty Black (Waynesville, Ohio) and Taylor Emody (Milan, Ohio) also chipped in offensively with one hit apiece.
The Redhawks jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning and never look back as they led for the remainder of the game. Miami would go on to score three runs in the second, three in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth to open up 14-0 advantage through five and a half innings.
Ohio's lone run of the game came in the bottom half of the sixth. Junior Jake Madsen came in from third on a passed ball to score the Bobcats only run of the game. Miami would then tack on two more runs in the top half of the ninth, increasing its lead to 16-1.
Miami's Ryan Powers got the win and improved to 8-3 on the year. In 5.0 innings of work, Powers allowed just three hits and did not give up an earned run.
