ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio baseball team played its annual Green and White Game Sunday, when the green squad earned an 11-6, eight-inning win over the white squad at Bob Wren Stadium. The game put an official end to fall practice for the team.

"We've had a good fall practice," Head Coach Joe Carbone said. "The guys came out, put uniforms on and competed and played against each other. I think it was a pretty good day. You never know what you did well and what you didn't do well when you split the team up."

The green squad finished with 11 runs on nine hits and did not commit an error while the white squad put up six runs on nine hits with two errors. The big blow was a five-run third inning for the green squad. The white squad did most of their scoring late as they put five runs on the board in the final three innings.

Three players had multi-hit games for the green squad as junior Zach Hartle (Toledo, Ohio), senior Bryant Witt (Powell, Ohio) and sophomore Brandon Besl (Cincinnati, Ohio) each collected two hits on the day. Besl finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Witt went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, one RBI and a walk. Hartle, who transferred to Ohio this season, went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk.

The white squad got one hit apiece from seven different players while freshman Joe Morris (Mount Sterling, Ohio) was the only player to collect two hits. Senior Jared Willis (Logan, W.Va.) hit the only home run of the game, a two-run shot to left field in the sixth inning after senior Dusty Hammond (Bellefontaine, Ohio) led off the inning with a single.

"It felt pretty good off the bat," Willis said. "Dusty got on there to start the inning and the last thing you want to do there is ground into a double play. I was just trying to drive the ball to the outfield and make something happen."

Left-handed senior Dan Weiss (Cincinnati, Ohio) pitched two scoreless innings for the green squad and sophomore Matt Schlarb (Lexington, Ohio) pitched one scoreless frame. Sophomore Kevin Mementowski and junior Andrew Shisila (Mentor, Ohio) each turned in one scoreless inning for the white squad.

The Bobcats will begin regular season action Feb. 16-18, 2007 with a three-game series at Vanderbilt.
