ATHENS, Ohio - The Green Team defeated the White Team 2-1 in six innings Saturday afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium as the Ohio University baseball team concluded its 2011 Fall Series.
Senior outfielder Jensen Painter (Willshire, Ohio) continued his strong fall campaign as he drilled his second home run of the series over the center field wall in the top half of the first inning to give the White Team an early 1-0 lead.
The Green team fought back in the bottom half of the frame to even the score at one apiece thanks to a run by senior outfielder Doug Holmes (Twinsburg, Ohio). Holmes got on base as he led off the inning with a triple to right-center field.
Both teams were held scoreless until the bottom half of the sixth inning. The Green Team scored the game-winning run after junior Seth Streich (Ridgeway, Pa.) drew a bases loaded walk, which plated Holmes from third.
Freshman pitcher Tyler Plys (Parma, Ohio) earned the win for the Green as he limited the White to just one run over three innings.
Ohio opens up its 2012 regular season on Feb. 17 as it heads to UNC-Wilmington. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
