ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University baseball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Mid-American Conference East Division based on the results of the league's 2013 Preseason Poll, which was announced today. The preseason poll was voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.

Ohio, which opens its 2013 schedule on Saturday against Valparaiso and Belmont, returns six starters from last year's squad that finished 2012 with a 28-29 overall record and placed second in the MAC East.

Among the returnees, Ohio welcomes back Jake Madsen, Tyler Wells and Cody Gaertner, all of whom batted over .300 a year ago. Wells and Gaertner, along with teammate Brett Barber, each received Preseason All-Conference honors by CollegeSportsMadness.com.

The Bobcats are coached by first-year bench boss Rob Smith, who spent the previous six years at Creighton. During his six years in Omaha, Smith helped direct the Bluejays to three NCAA appearances.

2012 College World Series participant Kent State was picked to repeat as MAC East Division and Tournament champions in 2013. The Flashes garnered nine votes to win the MAC Tournament, while Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo each received one vote.

The MAC baseball season begins on Friday, Feb. 15, while conference play starts up Friday, March 22. The season will conclude with the MAC Baseball Tournament, which takes place May 21-25 at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.
