Ohio Set For Opener with Murray State

The Ohio University baseball team opens the 2014 season Sunday with a doubleheader against Murray State, beginning at 2 p.m. The Bobcats' season opening twinbill with the Racers will be held at the Southern Athletic Fields in Columbia, Tenn.

-Rob Smith begins his second season as head coach of the Bobcats.
-Ohio returns eight position starters from last year's squad, however for of those players were lost in the preseason to season-ending injuries in the form of Cody Gaertner, Nick Squires, Nate Squires and Brice Nikithser.
-Despite the preseason injuries, the Bobcats welcome 20 newcomers to the squad that Smith hopes can contribute immediately.
-Junior Jake Madsen leads the Bobcats offense after he led the team in batting average for the second-consecutive season. In 2013, Madsen posted an average of .326. -Starting pitcher Jake Miller also returns to the lineup following a freshman campaign that saw him throw 77.0 innings and post a team-best 55 strike outs.
-Sophomore Connor Sitz also returns to the mound following a freshman campaign where he logged 71.0 innings. Sitz rebounded strong to post a team-best 2.58 ERA over his final six starts.
-Freshman Jake Roehn will get the start for the Bobcats in game one of the doubleheader.
-The Bobcats' 2014 schedule features five matchups against team that competed in the 2013 NCAA Championship.

The Bobcats' matchup with Murray State marks Ohio's first all-time meeting with the Racers.

Murray State was picked to finished 10th in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. The Racers return three starters from last year's squad that finished the 2013 campaign with a 21-33 mark. MSU closed out the year 9-21 in the OVC. Senior Cameron Finch will get the start for the Racers after he finished 2013 with a 5-4 record and a 4.32 ERA. He also threw the school's first nine-inning no-hitter last year.

6 - Ohio University Baseball players received Academic Honorable Mention by the Mid-American Conference for the 2012-2013 year.
