The Ohio University baseball team returns to action on Friday at 6 p.m. for the start of its spring break road trip where it will play eight games in 10 days. This weekend the Bobcats will play a pair of games against Georgia Southern (7-1) and a single game against SIU-Edwardsville inside J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.
NOTING THE BOBCATS
-Ohio enters its third week of the season following a four-game set where it played two games with Liberty and UNC-Wilmington in Wilmington, N.C.
-The Bobcats' lone win over the weekend came in 5-4 victory over Liberty.
-Junior first baseman Jake Madsen posted a team-best .529 batting average this past weekend at the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach Tournament last weekend.
-All three of the Bobcat starters this weekend are true freshman.
-Freshman Mitch Longo has a team-best .458 batting average through six games. He also has team-best .667 average with runners in scoring position.
-Longo also ranks in the top five of three Mid-American Conference statistical categories.
-Freshman Corey Wells is a perfect 2-for-2 in save situations this season. Wells has not allowed an earned run this season.
-Ohio's .394 batting average and .987 fielding percentage during its first series of the year was the best among any Mid-American Conference team.

The Bobcats' matchup with Georgia Southern and SIU-Edwardsville will mark Ohio's first all-time meeting with both teams.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Georgia Southern enters its series with Ohio with a 7-1 record and is in the midst of a six-game winning streak. Among the seven wins the Eagles have posted this season, Georgia Southern has posted two wins against Georgia and one win over Georgia Tech. The Eagles own a batting average .359 and an earned run average of 2.66 as a team. In addition, Georgia Southern has 10 players that are currently batting over .300. Senior Stryker Brown leads the team with three home runs and 16 RBI. Junior left-hander Sam Howard leads the Eagles with a team-best two wins. He has also not given up a run in 12.0 innings pitched.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Southern Illinois Edwardsville enters its matchup with Ohio, having lost its last three games. The Cougars were picked to finish eighth in the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. SIUE opened the year at Wichita State (0-3) before traveling to New Mexico State (1-3). The Cougars have a team batting average of .230 and have a team earned run averaged of 9.00. Freshman Keaton Wright leads the squad with a team-best .333 batting average.

The Ohio University baseball team posted a 1-3 last weekend at the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach Tournament on the campus of UNC-Wilmington. Ohio's lone win came in the form of a 5-4 victory over Liberty on Sunday. On Saturday, the Bobcats fell to Liberty 8-5 and UNCW 6-3. Ohio dropped the finale to UNCW 9-1. Junior Jake Madsen led the Bobcats' offensively as he posted a batting average of .529 (9-of-17) with two RBI. Freshman Jake Rudnicki picked up the Bobcats' lone win on the weekend as he worked 5.2 innings and allowed three earned runs.
